Do you "borrow" Art?
If you want to borrow someone else's artistic talent to decorate your website, please be kind enough to ask permission first. If you can understand how difficult it is to create artwork, then you'll understand why artists should know what happens to it.
Yes, I realise artwork is not a physical item that gets lost or stolen. But it's the fact you're using someone else's talent to make your site or graphics look good just because you can't.
Saying, "I got permission from" sounds a lot nicer and more professional than, "I just found this on the internet". If artists can spare the time to produce artwork for us to see, then you can spare the time to contact them, ask permission and show your appreciation.
PS: Giving credit is not the same as asking for permission. When borrowing someone else's talent, it's polite do to both – So that you and the artist have an agreement. You want feedback for your site, artists want feedback for their work. Communicate with people!
